STEVE BRIGHT BVMS, CertSAS, DipECVS, MRCVS
European and RCVS recognised Specialist in Small Animal Surgery (Orthopaedics)
Steve graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1998 and during his early career in small animal first-opinion practice he developed an interest in surgery. In 2003, Steve embarked on Specialist training and completed a Small Animal Surgery residency at the University of Liverpool in 2006. During his residency, he gained his Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. Steve became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2008 and is now a European and Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) recognised Specialist in Small Animal Surgery.
In 2006, Steve joined Northwest Surgeons, Cheshire, a second opinion, referral Veterinary Hospital. During his tenure, he helped develop and maintain a successful orthopaedic and spinal surgery referral service and latterly was a Director of the business (2013-2015). Steve held the position of Chair of the Clinical Governance Committee, dedicated to developing policies for best practice within the Hospital. In 2009, Steve was invited by the University of Nottingham, one of the UK’s new Veterinary Schools, to become Associate Professor of Small Animal Surgery, responsible for developing and teaching the clinical part of the musculoskeletal course for undergraduate veterinary surgeons. He maintained this position alongside his full time clinical role at Northwest Surgeons. Steve has published in peer-reviewed journals and is actively involved in the provision of CPD for postgraduate veterinary surgeons, including part of the examination team for the new RCVS Small Animal Surgery certificate run by the University of Liverpool. Steve is passionate about all aspects of orthopaedic surgery but has particular interest in the management of cranial cruciate ligament rupture by tibial plateau levelling osteotomy (TPLO), fracture repair, arthroscopy and total hip replacement.
Steve and Ben have been colleagues for several years and when the opportunity to open Manchester Veterinary Specialists arose they accepted without hesitation and with great enthusiasm. Together they form a strong team, providing both experience and specialist training with a strong desire to provide the highest possible standards of care.
